In this intriguing work a hummingbird and it’s imitator, a “Hummingbird Moth” are busy gathering nectar and pollinating the flowers of a Joshua Tree. The gold sphere represents the sun giving light and energy. The black disk represents space in which we are but a spec. And the reverse silhouette of a human figure is evocative of human interaction with nature, for good or bad.
“In our garden are several large Joshua Trees which briefly, once a year produce the most amazing blooms. I love watching and photographing the incredible aerial ballet as hummingbirds and various insects vie for a taste of what must be delicious nectar.” —Austine
